Changing Weapons

This Sunday the Waupaca Lakemen will use metal bats for the first time this year as they host Clintonville.

Many would assume using wood bats all year then going to metal would be easy, it’s not.  Players know it isn’t just a different swing due to weight balancing, but a different game all together.  You’re no longer playing baseball, you’re playing to score runs, a lot of runs.  In the BABA North championship game (metal bats) Aniwa defeated Wittenberg 24-7, meaning Aniwa scored 3 TDs and a field goal?, no, 24 runs scored, 24 runs crossed the plate.

This is what Waupaca will be contending with Sunday as they host Clintonville in the game for the right to go to the Grand Championship next Sunday.

Waupaca’s Andy Wanty: “(We) Practiced with metal last night... big disadvantage for us to use these now, but if we don't it's like going to a gun fight with a knife”.

Zac Peterson will pitch against Clintonville’s Jim Nighbor.  Waupaca has faced Clintonville in the semi-final game 3 years in a row, coming out on the losing end each time.
